In 2011, Wikispeed created its first prototype which would run 100 miles per gallon, complied with all road safety standards and was looking like a racing car for Les Mans. The car could go from 0 to 60 mph (100 km/h) in less than five seconds. It weighed just 1,404 pounds (640 kg) and had a top speed of 149 mph (240 km/h).
Joe Justice, the Founder of Wikispeed, praised in a 2011 TEDxTalk, how the usage of the tools and frameworks from the Agile & Open Source communities would have helped the team to build the protoype in only 3 months. Traditionally, such design process takes several years.
