On January 31st 2012, the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation is officially launched under a joint venture by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountant (AICPA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
This groundbreaking move is to “elevate the profession of management accounting” by guiding critical business decisions and driving performance in businesses of all sizes, public and private sectors alike.
The CGMA is also hoped to promote a global profile of management accounting, built on the recognition of AICPA in North America and CIMA in Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia and more.
These two biggest professional accountancy bodies in the world, the AICPA and CIMA, are founded in 1887 and 1919 respectively, with a total of more than 550,000 members and students.
