Support for Central Vietnam

Posted by Quynh Nguyen Nhu on

2020 has been a dreadful year, and while businesses and individuals are still trying their best to make the most out of the current situation, we are devastated to witness yet another extreme calamity from mother nature.

During the past several weeks, the central and Central Highlands of Vietnam has been suffering from heavy rains, floods, and landslides which were caused by the seasonal monsoon combined with a cold spell from the north and the intertropical convergence zone.

At the time of this article:

  • Over 17,4 kilometres of local roads and 16 national highways have been damaged
  • More than 7,200 hectares of food crops have been submerged and damaged, and more than 691,000 cattle and poultry have been killed or swept away
  • The death toll has reached 111, at least 22 people are still missing, 53,000+ families have been evacuated

Most impacted provinces are Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Tri and Quang Nam. The floods are predicted to worsen as rains continue. Military and police personnel were dispatched yesterday afternoon to aid the evacuation of residents in Quang Binh and Ha Tinh provinces which are also facing the rising tides.

Red Cross disaster teams are already working alongside local authorities to provide relief assistance. Donations and aids are streaming in from the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, the IFRC as well as public and private entities.

At TRG International, we have staff whose hometowns are in the dead centre of the affected areas. Upon receiving such tragic news, our CSR team immediately takes action to gather as much support as possible.

With the motto "We help where we can", every year, TRG makes sure to reserve funds dedicated to supporting various charitable initiatives and programs across the country. For close to a decade, our CSR team has donated, supported, and visited multiple orphanages, needed families, and unfortunate rural communities suffered from natural disasters.

In recent years, we have switched to a donation matching program, where for every VND that employees contribute, TRG (Trade Union) will match, thus, increasing the value of the gift.

For this particular mission, TRG's target is to donate 100 gift packages to 100 families that are severely impacted by the floods in Thua Thien-Hue and surrounding areas. Each package will include foods and daily essentials, valued at VND 500,000.

We aim to achieve the VND 50,000,000 target by 28 October 2020.
