Coming together to support families impacted by Typhoon Yagi

The fundraising was a nationwide effort. According to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, the funds raised to assist victims have reached VND 1,628 billion.

Endless streams of individual and group sponsors have been heading directly to the affected areas to deliver relief, including food, water, money, clothing, medical supplies, and other essential items. These dedicated individuals and organisations have been working tirelessly, often braving dangerous conditions, to ensure that the aid reaches those who need it most.

In solidarity with the nation's grief, TRG International rallied its employees and resources to support those affected. Through a generous contribution matching program, the company aimed to double the impact of its employees' donations.

Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our dedicated employees and the company's matching contributions, we were able to make a small yet meaningful impact on the lives of those affected by the devastating disaster.

The success of our fundraising campaign is a testament to the power of collective action and the incredible spirit of our community. The company's donation matching program played a crucial role in maximising the donations.

TRG matched every dollar donated by our employees, effectively doubling the impact of their generosity and amplifying the support we could provide to those in need. This collaborative effort has shown that when we come together with a shared purpose, we can achieve remarkable outcomes and bring hope to those facing challenging times.

The funds will be donated to the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, which will allocate resources towards aiding recovery and rebuilding efforts in the hardest-hit areas.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the TRGers who contributed to this heartwarming cause. Your generosity and empathy will make a real difference in the lives of those recovering from the typhoon's devastation.

What is Typhoon Yagi?

Typhoon Yagi, the most powerful storm to strike Vietnam in thirty years, tore through the northern area of the country on September 7, leaving behind extensive damage, widespread flooding, and deadly landslides that caused significant harm to infrastructure, property, and agriculture.

Severe floods and landslides in Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Thai Nguyen, and Cao Bang resulted in numerous fatalities, injuries, and missing persons. As the rains continue and water levels rise rapidly in rivers, authorities are warning of potential widespread flooding in northern regions, including the area around Hanoi.

According to ReliefWeb, a humanitarian information service provided by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), countries affected by Typhoon Yagi include:

  • Cambodia
  • China
  • Lao People's Democratic Republic (the)
  • Myanmar
  • Philippines
  • Thailand
  • Vietnam

The impact of Typhoon Yagi is the most disastrous in Myanmar.

Effects of Typhoon Yagi in Vietnam

By 5:30 pm on September 15, authorities recorded 292 fatalities, leaving 38 individuals unaccounted for. The storm ravaged nearly 232,000 homes, submerged over 190,000 hectares of rice fields, 48,000 hectares of other crops, and obliterated around 32,000 hectares of fruit trees.

More than 3,269 aquaculture cages were either damaged or washed away, and over 2.6 million livestock and poultry were lost. The Ministry of Planning and Investment estimated the material losses to be approximately VND50 trillion (US$2 billion).

The impact of Typhoon Yagi was severe, and it took considerable time and resources for Vietnam to recover from the storm's devastation. The TRG International fundraising campaign was a significant effort to support the relief efforts and help those affected by the typhoon.
