Posted by Thanh Le on

Ho Chi Minh City, on November 11th 2015, students from Business Information System (BIS) and Commerce Club of RMIT attended the workshop “Business Analyst vs Application Consultant” conducted by TRG International. TRG International’s CEO - Rick Yvanovich hosted the workshop as speaker to explain the real differences between the two jobs, and the market demand in Vietnam.

Regarding systematic thinking and communication skills, Rick gave advice on the required skills set: “You need to constantly expand your skill sets because things constantly change in our industry. There are new things invented all the time so you need to keep up with the times.”

Apart from the Business Analyst and Application Consultant differences, some very good questions were raised from the RMIT student audience about the difference between Business Analysts from BIS and non-BIS Degree programs. Rick explained that if they were from a non-BIS background, they tended to be IT or software engineers, whereas the BIS may not have any programming ability.

When being asked which job has the higher salary in the current market, he shared his point of view.

“It does not matter what career path you picked. It depends on how successful you are. Admittedly, when you look at salary charts, you can see the average of this job is higher than the average of that job. Does that mean you want to be an average person? Or do you want to get to the top of whatever profession that you are going to pick? So when someone else asks me about career paths, I’m assuming you want to get to the top. And at the top, there is no average.”

Attendees also asked some questions about TRG’s Graduate Development Program (GDP) and ended up learning all about it and its history with RMIT. This event is the first instalment of a strategic partnership between TRG and RMIT BIS Club, which occurs every semester from now to January 2017. This is a chance for RMIT students to learn and understand more about where they are orienting their career to help open up their minds to the opportunities that an RMIT BIS Degree can have.
